Apple vs Microsoft
Which platform do you use? According to the youth, Apple is their pick. Kids insist on the Mac. One of their selling points to us is that they don’t get viruses. At the time, Apple’s marketing was in high gear. Savvy, smooth and elegant, these machines, phones, and tablets made you salivate.
Their competitor Microsoft has recently launched a new marketing campaign. Their new products are turning our heads, making us drool at the new laptop that turns itself into a tablet! The new droid phones seem to be doing amazing things and giving us more options.
Which to choose!
I recently received a new Macbook Air as a gift. I had only worked on a PC before. My kids wouldn’t even let me look at their new Macbook’s. It took me a little while, but I like the click and drag concept. It makes things streamlined and easy to navigate. However, when I needed to mail merge a document, I couldn’t do it. I Googled until my fingers were sore, and what I found was the newest version of the word processing program had removed that function. What? Am I the only person on this planet that needs to mail merge using a Mac! I am finding other small things that I am unable to accomplish. Does this outweigh the ease of this machine?
The cost of the Apple products are comparatively more expensive then their competitors. Are we paying for the sleek design? They give amazing customer service. Are we paying for that at the front end?
My friends in the IT world snicker at the popularity of the Apple products. These hard core techno nerds insist that the Microsoft platform is the best. Who knows? I just wish I could do everything I need to do on one machine, without going broke and buying the software program that replicates the competitors program to work on the other’s machine. Is that too much to ask?
