As a Virtual Office Service provider and having several businesses and non-profits, I have been on the internet and have had a smart phone for many years. Along the way, I have learned about virtual real estate that many of us have but may not use effectively. Let me help you break it down so you get as much bang for your virtual buck.
Signatures
That space at the bottom of your emails or when you send a text from your phone is prime virtual real estate. This is a great area to place not only your name, but your company, website or tag line. On all email providers, under settings, it will allow you to personalize this area. From your computer, you are able to place a hyperlink to a website, Facebook page, LinkedIn page or any other page you want to highlight. On smartphones, also under settings, it will allow you to personalize your signature, however, I have found that hyperlinks are not possible to set up.
Facebook Cover Page
Not your profile picture, the large picture behind it. Especially on a business page, make this capture your audience and place a picture that shows visually what you do. You are also able to place your contact info. Just embed this information on your photo prior to uploading the photo to Facebook.
Link to your Business Facebook Page
I have seen many personal Facebook pages from people who have businesses. They list a business name, but when you hoover over it the name with your curser, a blank “dummy” page shows up. Facebook creates this automatically. Use this as an opportunity to direct people to your business or website. It’s there, you might as well use it.
LinkedIn Background
Recently LinkedIn has given us the opportunity to personalize how our page shows up. You now have the ability to change the background behind your profile information. This can be tricky trying to find a photo that works, but it is another area where you can convey what you do.
Twitter
Virtual Real Estate is a little sparse here. Just make sure under settings you fill out your entire profile and add a picture of your logo. Completing your profile will only help you if you find tweeting is your way of communicating to your audience.
If all this seems too daunting for you, let me help you! Leave it to Laynie.
