Can You be Both a Conservative and a Liberal?

I think of myself as a pretty liberal person on most topics. However, I was listening to a guest speaker the other day talk and I found myself so closed minded about who she was and what she was saying that I just had a flash through my brain, can I be both conservative and liberal at the same time?

The political rollercoaster is in full swing. Bernie Sanders is declaring his liberalism and Hillary Clinton is doing her best to do the same.  Do they have any conservative views? On the other side of the aisle, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are declaring their conservative views.  Is it possible that they have any liberalism in them?

In my case, I think it comes down to living as a conservative within the home but living as a liberal globally.  Meaning, my family members have friends and acquaintances with everyone across the board.  Learning and enjoying relationships from people with different backgrounds and lifestyles makes life interesting.  However, am I wrong that I don’t want some of these nestled in my home? I would be resistant if my child brought someone home who they were dating that was different than us.  I know how awful it sounds, but I am a conservative at heart. Fortunately I haven’t been confronted with this yet.

I find it hard to believe that everyone who has been shouting on television these days are only one way or another.  I think the world would be an easier place to live if we look within ourselves to really see that we are able to have both types of  views within ourselves and be open to others around us. Leave it to Laynie
